I love that they wanted a celebration that would bring their friends and family together, to spend time and talk and laugh with each other through a conversational coffee shop atmosphere (with plenty of board games at hand!). I love their rockin’ dinosaur and superhero cake toppers. I love Kristina’s attention to detail–notice how all the decor at the reception incorporates a classic Art Deco aesthetic, and colors and elements inspired by the stained glass in the church? Or how each individual bridesmaid’s shoes match her corresponding groomsman’s tie? (Nothing is an accident when it comes to humanities doctoral students, folks.)
Most of all, though, I love what these two mean to each other, and how they wanted their big day to reflect that.
Wes and Kristina met while working on their PhDs at the University of Cincinnati (Kristina in Classics, Wes in the German department), and, well, I think Kristina says it best…
“Fast forward through a wonderful year of Indian food, dissertation study nights, long conversations on the front porch and many, MANY non-date dates… we knew this great friendship could be something more. And, however cliché it might sound, we really are marrying our best friends. We are so excited to face the world together.”
After a beautiful service officiated by Kristina’s father, everyone enjoyed a delicious charcuterie and meal from Melt, one of Wes and Kristina’s favorite restaurants in Northside. The reception was held at Rohs Street Cafe (their favorite coffee shop in Clifton), complete with the perfect daily special–a delicious latte called the ‘Westina’!
Wes and Kristina, it was an honor to be a part of your big day, and to document your guests as an expert ‘photo ninja.’ :) I wish you both luck and happiness in your new life together. Herzlichen Glückwunsch zur Hochzeit!
